Ellys Manor House Grantham (pronounced Ellis) affectionately EMH. Built in the late 15th to early 16th centuries by the Ellys family who were rich wool merchants. They traded wool between the Low Countries and England. Thus the architectural language of the building, is that of the Low Countries and the Baltic region. EMH perfectly encapsulates early European and British social history, come and be reminded just how important the wool trade was to England. The Woolsack is the seat of the Lord Speaker in the House of Lordes. It is a large square cushion of wool covered in red cloth. It has no arms. Special focus on the Northern Renaissance.
