A Russian family has bought this 16th century inn on the Isle of Bute and transformed it into a recreation of an imperial Russian Tavern

Ancient seashore village inn at Port Bannatyne, a sailing and fishing village on the unspoilt Isle o Bute in Scotland. Bought by a Russian Family in 2000 the gloomy old pub has been transformed into a Russian Tavern of Imperial times. Fresh landed seafood and fine Russian cuisine is served on timber tables, Real Ales are poured direct from casks on the bar, and fine a la carte Russian dishes are available all day. There is a good selection of Russian beers, wines and vodkas. Count Nikolai Tolstoy declared: "This is the best Beef Strogonoff I have tasted...EVER!" Reputedly in the top six affordable restaurants in Scotland (Time Out,) the views across the water to the Argyll highlands are truly stunning. There are four inexpensive guestooms. Port Bannatyne Marina is just 100 metres away, and Kames Castle just 200. Curlews and seals share the seashore while wild deer graze the golfcourse to the rear of the tavern.
