Catalytic Converter Theft Increase
Submitted by CSI Security Systems on 11 Nov 2011
In recent news reports the police have expressed their concerns at the rapid increase in the thefts of catalytic converters (CATs) across the UK.
It is reported that the number of thefts has increased by over 400% in recent months. This unprecidented increase has been attributed to the esculating price of scrap metal - especially precious metals, and is a trend that specialists believe will continue.
Catalytic converters contain precious metals such as gold and platinum, and are a very easy target for thieves.
The vehicles most at risk are ones with more ground clearance, e.g. 4x4's as this gives the criminals easier access to the CATs.
The cost of replacing a stolen CAT can be around £1,000, plus the inconvenience of your vehicle being off the road and possible implication of lost work time.
Ensure your property is fully protected, CSI Security Systems can help with automated gates or a security system that can notify you when there is any activity in the secured area.
