Plymouth Hoe is a lovely grassed parkland area and a back drop to the Sound, Plymouth's wide sweeping bay. Throughout the summer many events take place on the Hoe and on a nice sunny day people love to sit there and enjoy the views or have a picnic. Or you can have a drink or an icecream from the vendors sitiuated there or in one of the cafe's. This area is also home to several statues and war memorials. One statue is of Sir Francis Drake who famously played bowls on the Hoe before setting sail to defeat the Spanish Armada. Also here is Smeatons Tower, which is the top half of the famous Edistone Light House which was dismantled and re-built here as a tourist attraction. You can go inside it and climb the many steps to the light at the top and a fantastic view of the bay.
