We are very conveniently located along the main road into Abingdon off the A34 but we are set well back from the road (and actually off a small service road running parallel to the main road) and behind some trees that provide a very effective sound barrier. A bus stop at the foot of our driveway provides easy and quick access directly into the centre of Oxford (just six miles away) and across the road is the bus stop to go into Abingdon itself (0.9 miles to the town centre). Two local pubs providing food are within 500 yards.

Directions to Abbey Guest House Abingdon

By Car: Directions from the A34 (travelling South) At the Wendlebury Interchange roundabout of the A34 with the M40 take the A34 South exit (signposted Oxford Newbury). After around 14.5 miles take the Abingdon North exit left off the A34 at the top of the slip-road at the T-junction turn left onto the A4183. After around three quarters of a mile at the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the Oxford Road - A4183 (signposted Town Centre) After around a quarter of a mile (just after a set of pelican traffic lights) there is an active speed camera on this stretch of road. Travel approximately another 150 yards past the speed camera and then turn right into Wheatcroft Close. (This turning is immediately in front of a bus stop for buses coming towards you and heading for Oxford). Then turn immediately left into Oxford Road; now you will be behind the bus stop on a service road that runs parallel to the main road. No 136 is the first house now on your right with a block-paved driveway and spaces marked out for all guests to park. At night there are low level lights on the side of the pillars marking the entrance to the drive. Directions from the A34 (travelling North) Approx 17 miles from the A34 Junction with the M4 is the exit slip road signposted A415 to Abingdon. At the roundabout under the A34 turn right (3rd exit) again signposted A415 to Abingdon Town Centre. There are then a number of roundabouts to reach Abbey Guest House Abingdon avoiding the congestion in the town centre: Roundabout 1 (BandQ on left) - Go straight on (second exit) Roundabout 2 (McDonalds on left) - Turn left (first exit) Roundabout 3 (Abingdon Business Park on left) - Go straight on (second exit) Roundabout 4 (Abingdon Business Park on left) - Bear right (second exit) Roundabout 5 - Go straight on (second exit) Roundabout 6 - Turn right into Oxford Road (third exit) signposted A4183 Town Centre After around a quarter of a mile (just after a set of pelican traffic lights) there is an active speed camera on this stretch of road. By Bus: Get either the X2 X3 X4 or the X13 bus from Oxford. When the bus takes the slip road off the A34 (the fast dual carriageway road) it will travel up hill and turn left at the top of the road. The bus will then proceed to a roundabout where it will go straight across (second exit). Just after the roundabout there is a bus stop (buses usually stop there but may not if it is late or if no one wants to get on or off - so do keep an eye out). Once past that stop ring the bell so that the bus stops at the next stop (the 'South Avenue' stop) for you to get off (all stops are 'request' stops here and buses will not stop unless there is a demand). Once off the bus cross over the road and walk in the same direction the bus was travelling. In front of you you will see the bus stop (again labelled 'South Avenue') for travelling back to Oxford. This stop is right in front of the house (Number 136) - albeit that there is a little slip road and a grass verge in-between! Should you miss the stop the next bus stop is labelled 'Boundary House' (it is the name of the pub that is at the crossroads in front of the stop) and you would just need to cross over the road again but now have to walk back a little way. By Train: The most convenient train station is Oxford and trains go there from London Birmingham etc. From Oxford railway station travel to Abingdon is by bus and could not be easier as there are buses that go directly from the station and then go past the Abbey Guest House Abingdon before going into the centre of Abingdon. Pick up the X3 bus from the station forecourt. The bus stop is the first on the left as you come down the stairs at the front of the station. (There are other buses - the X2 X4 and X13 - that you can pick up if you go into the town but this is the only bus that goes direct from the station.) Then follow the directions as given for bus travel. By Plane: Whether flying into Gatwick Heathrow Luton or Stansted the easiest way to get to Abingdon by public transport is to take a bus or coach to Oxford from the airport. If travelling by bus from either London Heathrow or Gatwick etc. you may find it easier to get off the Oxford Tube or Airport Bus one stop before the Gloucester Green terminal - check with the bus driver! The bus should stop in High Street you should find a stop (J4) to catch the X2 X3 X4 or X13 bus not far from wherever you get off (see directions on the bus stop display). Then follow the directions as given for bus travel.
