Originally built in 1698 when James Tillie a flamboyant businessman built his grand home on the Cornish bank of the River Tamar and erected a statue of himself outside. In 1809 the family had more money to play with and commissioned 18th Century architect William Wilkins renowned for his Gothic flair to transform Pentillie into a castle. However by 1968 dated amenities and inheritance taxes led to the demolition of three wings and the scaling down of this tremendous property to its current size and layout . Pentillie Castle is also available for exclusive hire corporate meetings and conferences.

Take the A38 via Plymouth into Cornwall. At the first roundabout after crossing the River Tamar into Cornwall turn Right onto the A388 signposted Callington and Launceston. Continue for 3.1 miles before turning Right at Paynters Cross (also signposted Cargreen Landulph AND the Crooked Spaniards Inn). The entrance to Pentillie will be within 100 metres of the main road. If the gates do not appear within 100 yards then you have come off the main road early. Don't panic just continue to the T-junction turn left (small signpost to Pentillie) and the entrance to Pentillie will be on your right at the top of the hill.
