This cosy semi-detached cottage is located at the end of a quiet lane in an area of outstanding natural beauty - a peaceful setting from which to explore the whole of Dorset. The nearby village of Buckland Newton offers a post office and village stores plus the popular Gaggle of Geese pub which serves real ales and food. The nearby historic town of Sherborne and county town of Dorchester are an easy drive away. On your doorstep are exhilarating country walks to the ancient village of Cerne Abbas with its famous giant etched into the chalk hillside. The wonderful Dorset coastline is within easy reach through pretty country lanes. The cottage offers a warm welcome to Guests with a woodburning stove to keep the winter chills away or a cool haven from the summer sun with a shaded garden area for evening drinks and al fresco dining.Accommodation: Lounge kitchen diner. 1st floor: Kingsize bed with en-suite shower hand basin and toilet.: Oil fired central heating wood burning stove (one basket of logs provided). Directions to Shepherds cottage Dorchester

From A35 (South) Dorchester area:Come off the A35 dual carriageway at the junction with the A354 Blandford Forum road. At the flyover junction roundabout you immediately come to take the exit signposted B3142 Piddlehinton Piddletrenthide (if you were heading towards Dorchester when you exited the dual carriageway you will need to go over the fly over first in order to get to the roundabout where you then exit onto the B3142). At the end of the B3142 turn right onto the B3143. Pass through Piddlehinton then pass through Piddletrenthide. The next village is Alton Pancras. When you have passed through Alton Pancras just under a mile further on take the next left turn called Hilling Lane and signposted Henley and with a telephone box on the corner. (Henley is a small hamlet not shown on many maps but is just south of Buckland Newton). Then after a short distance take the next left into Ford Down Lane (if you miss the turn you will wind your way down to the village of Buckland Newton). Keep going straight towards the end of the lane and Shepherds Cottage is semi detached to the Owners house which is called Hountwell' and is on the left just before the end of the lane the lane turns into a bridle footpath at its end (Hountwell sits slightly back and elevated from the lane it has a fair sized hedge fronting the lane itself). The entrance door to Shepherds Cottage is on the left hand side of the house as you look at the house from the lane. Parking is in the driveway opposite. From A3030 (North) Sturminster Newton Sherborne road:Come off the A3030 (just west of a small village called Woodbridge) onto the B3143 (signposted Kings Stag Pulham). Pass through Kings Stag then Pulham and onto another small village called Duntish. After passing through Duntish turn left at the turning signposted Buckland Newton. Go over a crossroads pass a shop on the left and then travel over the hill and take the next main turning on the right signposted Henley and with a telephone box on the corner. (Henley is a small hamlet not shown on many maps but is just south of Buckland Newton if you miss the turn you will very quickly come to the village of Alton Pancras; if you do end up in Alton Pancras turn round and follow the directions from in the paragraph above). Then after a short distance take the next left into Ford Down Lane (if you miss the turn you will wind your way down to the village of Buckland Newton).
