Our 12 en-suite rooms are all spacious and furnished to a high standard with lovely views of our private gardens or the gentle steam trains of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. All our rooms have flat screen TVs and DVD players and there is free wifi throughout the house. We have family suites available and dogs are welcome in half our rooms. And you're not confined to your room at Stanley House as we have two comfortable and cosy sitting rooms and beautiful gardens for guests to enjoy.We'll look after breakfast for you but you are then welcome to make your own snacks and meals throughout the day with full access to our open plan kitchen and dining room. Our well-stocked Open Larder has all the basic essentials' you'll need! If you'd prefer to avoid any cooking Stanley House is within walking distance of some fine Inns in Boot or Eskdale Green. Our own sister property The Woolpack is nearby at the foot of Hardknott Pass and serves food all day.The beautiful valley of Eskdale is in the heart of the Lake District National Park and at Stanley House the fells really are on our doorstep. On offer is a choice of walks from gentle lowland paths along the River Esk to the more strenuous heights of Scafell Pike.There's a wayside halt right outside our door where you can catch the famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway or La'al Ratty as it's known locally. Nearby you'll find Wastwater in Wasdale - voted Best View in Britain and other great local attractions such as Muncaster Castle and the Owl Trust the coastal village of Ravenglass or the Maritime Festival town of Whitehaven - an ancient smugglers haven.Stanley House is also available for sole private use so you can enjoy your own house party for family celebrations and group activities.

Directions to Stanley House Eskdale

Proceed North on the M6 motorway leaving at Junction 36 as a guide you are approximately 1 hour to destination.Turn Left at the top of the slip road onto the A590 dual carriageway and stay on this road for 3 miles before turning Left onto a slip road signed A590 Barrow. Turn Left at the roundabout at the bottom of the slip road onto the A590. After 6 miles of mostly Dual Carriageway (beware of the speed camera) you will approach a roundabout which you need to turn right at (signed A590 Barrow and Newby Bridge).Proceed along this road for approximately 11 miles before coming to a right hand turn (at a place called Greenodd) signed A5092 (A595) Workington and Whitehaven. Carry on along this road for approximately 11.5 miles until you reach the Duddon Bridge with (permanent) Traffic Lights turn right signed Ulpha and Seathwaite.At this point the roads get (a lot) narrower! 3.7 miles later turn left (signed Eskdale and Whitehaven) just 300yds after a mini Post Office. Up the short sharp shock hill and over the hills for 6.5 miles.When you reach the King George IV pub turn right signed Boot and Eskdale.After approximately 1 mile you will see us on the right. Please park in front of the Inn and come and check-in.Unless you know the roads around here very well we would recommend that you do not come via Ambleside and Hardknott and Wrynose Passes. These are some of England's most outrageous roads but SatNavs do not understand this!Directions from the NorthLeave (or pass over) the M6 motorway at Junction 40 as a guide you are approximately 1.5 hours to destination.Take the A66 signed Cockermouth and follow this road for 29.4 miles until you reach Cockermouth (you will have gone straight on at 2 roundabouts). When you reach the roundabout at Cockermouth take the first exit signed A5086 Egremont. Proceed along this road for 14.8 miles until you reach a roundabout at Egremont.Take the first exit signed A595 Barrow and proceed along this road for 10.5 miles (having gone straight on at the next 3 roundabouts).Just after the petrol station on your right (last petrol before us) turn left signed Santon Bridge and Eskdale Green. At this point the road gets (a lot) narrower! Proceed along this road for 1.6 miles and turn right (signed Eskdale Green) on to an even narrower road. At the end of this road (1.8 miles) turn right and pass through Eskdale Green where turn left at the King George IV pub (1.3 miles from the last turn).After approximately 1 mile you will see us on the right. Please park in front of the Inn and come and check-in.Unless you know the roads around here very well we would recommend that you do not come via Grasmere Ambleside and Hardknott and Wrynose Passes. These are some of England's most outrageous roads but SatNavs do not understand this!
