The Saracen's Head Inn is steeped in history and character and was built using timbers from old ships. The building surrounds a central courtyard which was originally a travellers coaching inn. It was built in 1530 at Number 38 Whielden Street which was formerly known as Union Street when Amersham Hospital was known as The Workhouse. And rumour has it two ghosts roam the building one is alleged to be a young serving wench from the 17th Century the other one remains a mystery...............The Saracens Head Inn nestled in the beautiful centre of Amersham Old Town dating back to 1530 offers 12 ensuite rooms to suit every need. How to find The Saracen's Head InnDirections from the M25At junction 18 of the M25 follow the A404 westbound towards Amersham.Continue on through the outskirts of Chorleywood and then through Little Chalfont (taking the last exit at the mini roundabout).Upon reaching Amersham take the first exit off the roundabout towards Amersham Old Town continue down the hill and take the 3rd exit off the next roundabout.Continue past Merritts Jaguar dealer on to the next roundabout.Take the first exit moving into right hand lane and crossing the next roundabout (Tesco's is on your right)Continue into the Old Town for 200yds (there is a public car park on your right).At the next roundabout turn left onto Whielden Street The Saracens Head Inn is about 200yds on the left .Directions from the M40 At junction 2 of the M40 take the 3rd exit (if you are coming from London) - or the 1st exit (if you are coming from Oxford) in the direction of Beaconsfield.After 750yds of dual carriageway take the 1st exit off the roundabout onto the A40 towards Beaconsfield moving into the right-hand lane.After a further 700yds take the 2nd exit off the mini-roundabout onto the A355 towards Amersham continue towards Amersham for 4.7 miles.Cross the roundabout at the end of a long straight and fairly steep hill continuing on for a further 100yds. At the roundabout immediately before Tesco's turn left and continue into the Old Town for about 200yds (there is a public car park on your right).At the next roundabout turn left onto Whielden Street The Saracens Head Inn is about 200yds on the left.
