Monk Coniston is a Gothic-style Country House once owned by Beatrix Potter and now leased from the National Trust. The house retains its historic charm and enjoys inspirational views along Coniston Water and of the surrounding fells. Monk Coniston is particularly popular with walkers and outdoor enthusiasts. There are great walks to Tarn Hows and the Old Man of Coniston right on our doorstep while mountain bikers will love the extensive trails at nearby Grizedale Forest. We have a well equipped boot and drying room and an excellent selection of maps guidebooks and walk directions which guests can borrow. Communal dining at fixed dinner times.

From Ambleside take B5285 signposted to Hawkshead.After 3 miles and before Hawkshead turn right signposted Coniston and Brantwood. Straight on at High Cross and first left over the cattle grid. From Hawkshead follow B5285 to Coniston.After 1 mile turn left and then as above.
