Dating from around 1659 this traditional coaching inn is set in a quiet country village only 10 minutes from Carlisle and junction 43 of the M6 motorway. String of Horses lies in the middle of one of the most beautiful and historic areas of Britain: near Hadrian s Wall the Lake District and the Scottish borders. With its oak beams and panelling open fires and gleaming brassware the String of Horses has welcomed visitors from all over the world for more than 350 years. Directions to String of Horses Inn Carlisle

By Car From the North South or West: - Take the A69 from junction 43 of the M6 in the direction of Hexham / Newcastle. - After 5 or 6 miles turn right at the first set of traffic lights at Corby Hill / Warwick Bridge. - Proceed for 1 mile through the village of Heads Nook and a further mile until the road bears sharply right. - As the road bears right turn left into Faugh (pronounced Faff) village - you will find the String of Horses on your left as you go down the hill. From the East: - Turn left at the Corby Hill / Warwick Bridge traffic lights. These are the first set of traffic lights on the A69 some 3 miles after having passed Brampton. - Proceed for 1 mile through the village of Heads Nook and a further mile until the road bears sharply right. - As the road bears right turn left into Faugh village. You will find the String of Horses on your left as you go down the hill. By Train Carlisle Citadel station is 20 minutes away. By Air Newcastle Airport is 50 minutes away and Manchester and Glasgow Airports are less than 2 hours away.
