With many attractions throughout the year and host to the Edinburgh International and Fringe Festival in August each year Edinburgh is the ideal place for a short break. City tours are many and varied from open top bus rides to midnight ghost hunts. br / br / br / br / Heriott Park commands a prime position for watching the Edinburgh Festival Fireworks and is within walking distance to the Port of Leith where many Bistros and Fish restaurants have appeared over the years. Leith is home to the former Royal Yacht Britannia which after extensive refurbishment is now open to visitors. br / br / br / br / Edinburgh has a network of walkways and cycle tracks which can be accessed directly opposite the guest house and provide an alternative route into the city away from busy roads. br / br / br / br / Nearby is the Royal Botanic Garden. The largest section of the garden is the Arboretum where visitors can wander or rest in the shade of trees and shrubs from all over the world. Some of the most brilliant flowering is in the nearby Rhododendron Walk. br / br / br / br / Edinburgh Castle is worth a day out by itself and contains a wealth of history. The castle is at the top end of the Royal Mile which is full of interesting architecture and places to visit such as the Cathedral John Knox s House and Mary King s Close. br / br / br / br / Near the castle you can learn about Tartan weaving and go on to sample a whole range of whiskies in the Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre. br / br / br / br / At the bottom of the Royal Mile is the Palace of Holyrood - the Queen s official residence when on state visits as well as the Scottish Parliament and the Dynamic Earth exhibition. br / br / br / br / Nearby is Arthur s Seat which is worth a climb on a clear day for the wonderful views it affords over the city and over to Fife. If the weather is good you can see the peaks of the highlands in the far north. br / br / br / br / Princes Street George Street Rose Street and the Princes Mall provide the visitor with a wide choice of international and local traders and shopping.

Waverley Station/City Centre - Train: Taxi costs around £6-£7 or take bus 23 from outside Pizza Hut on Hannover St which is opposite the Art Gallery on Princes St 1 block from the station. Cost £1.20 single or £3 all day ticket (all routes except Airport). Pay driver on entry - exact fare no change given. Luggage space limited. Journey takes 10-15 minutes. At Goldenacre shops bus turns right on to Ferry Road for a short distance. Exit bus as soon as it turns left into Clark Rd and walk along Ferry Rd for 200m to Heriott Park. br/ br/ Other Buses - Bus: 14 from North Bridge/ Leith St to Ferry Rd (opposite the house) 27 from Mound/Hannover St to Goldenacre/Ferry Rd juntion (500 m from house) 8 from Newington/North Bridge/Bus Station/Broughton St to Goldenacre/Ferry Road junction All single journeys £1.20 adult 70p child. day ticket £3 adult £2.40 child (all routes). By hire car head towards city centre from airport and after around 2 miles go through the underpass and bear left following signs for Leith The route thereafter is the same as described for the M8/M90. br/ br/ A1 - Road: Ignore signs for the City Bypass and head to City Centre/Leith. Go straight on at the roundablout near ASDA and then after 200m go straight on again taking A199 signed Leith for around 4 miles heading straight along Harry Lauder Rd Seafield Rd Salamander St and Bernard St. After crossing the river in Leith head along Commercial St for 700m and take sharp right into North Junction St. At next lights take right into Ferry Rd. Heriott Park is 1 mile on the right opposite the sports ground. br/ br/ M8/M90 - Road: From M8 take City Bypass North and then after 500 m follow signs for Leith at the large roundabout after 2 miles you join M90/A90 Queesferry Rd. After another 2.5 miles take left fork (again heading to Leith) heading along Telford Rd. After another 1 mile take 3rd exit at large roundabout heading along Ferry Rd to Leith. Go for around 1.5 miles thought 4 sets of lights and Heriott Park is on the left opposite the sports ground. There is plenty free parking outside and opposite the house.
