The award winning Trout Hotel is based on the banks of the river Derwent in the gem town of Cockermouth and sits adjacent to the childhood home of poet laureate William Wordsworth. It is ideally located for the Western Lakes as well as Cumbria s Energy Coast. Although this four star venue has developed since its opening in the 1930 s it still combines contemporary luxury whilst retaining period charm. The elegant Derwent Restaurant serves fine English cuisine from an extensive à la carte menu while the modern Terrace Bar & Bistro has a varied menu and an heated outdoor seating area for Alfresco dining in a more informal atmosphere. All our menus feature ingredients locally sourced and of the highest quality. Our aim is to support and promote home-grown and locally produced food to support the local economy reduce food miles and give our guests the story behind their food. /p Free parking is available at the Trout making it easy for guests to explore the area. The Wordsworth House and Gardens as well as the Cockermouth Castle are both within easy walking distance while Isel Hall and Lake District Wildlife Park are within a 20 minute drive. /p In recent years The Trout Hotel has been the recipient of many regional and national awards including Cumbria Tourism best large hotel of the year 2011 Cumbria Tourism best large hotel of the year finalist 2007/2013 and bronze winner and finalist at the visit England awards for excellence 2012. In 2013 the hotel s managing director received a CNN group judge s award for special achievement. Trip Advisor has awarded the hotel for excellence 2012 & 2013. Directions to The Trout Hotel Cockermouth

From the South leave the M6 motorway at junction 40 (Penrith) and take the A66 signed Keswick and Cockermouth follow the raod for approx 2.3 miles. At the rounderbout signed for Cockermouth turn right by the Oakhurst Filling Station follow the directions for the Town centre. Turn left at the mini roundabout opposite Wordsworth house. The hotel is directly on the right (long black and white building with a large car park and garden to the side). From the North on reaching the Scottish/English border at Gretna take the A74 to carlisle then proceed onto the A595 which is the direct road to Cockermouth (22 Miles). Turn left at the roundabout signed Cockermouth go down the hill and turn left at the mini roundabout we are on the left hand side just past the church. From the East take the A69 then proceed from carlisle on the A595.
