In the historic south-west corner of the Cotswolds high above Stroud on the wilds of Rodborough Common stands the handsome Bear of Rodborough Hotel. Originally built in the 17th century this former coaching inn provided a much appreciated resting-place on the main coaching route from Gloucester to London. To this day it offers a warm welcome to all. Set in 300 acres of National Trust land the Bear of Rodborough Hotel provides a luxurious retreat where you can enjoy fine food and drink while relaxing in a homely and friendly atmosphere. Built over 300 years ago this coaching inn has been beautifully restored to embrace and exhibit its heritage and period features. The distinctive image of the reception area is reinforced by the presence of the old stone archway under which the horses once galloped into the courtyard and by the large bell formerly used to summon the inn-keeper. The 45 bedrooms in the Bear of Rodborough Hotel add a touch of elegance and individuality to your stay. They are uniquely styled in warm inviting colours with attention to detail in every bedroom. There are panoramic views over Rodborough Common and the beautiful Woodchester Valley. Bedrooms are located in the Main House and adjoining Woodchester House. You can bring your dogs to our property as we have a selection of specially allocated rooms (Country House Bedrooms) for an extra cost of £10 per dog per night (please advise when booking). Free Wi-Fi is available in all areas. /p Our chef will tantalise your taste buds with his imaginative culinary creations in the acclaimed and newly refurbished Library Restaurant. Having developed close links with local providers the Library Restaurant is able to source the finest in meats fish cheese vegetables and fruit. These include the renowned Gloucestershire Old Spot pork Hereford beef Bibury trout and Cerney goat s cheese. The Library Restaurant is renowned in the local area for the excellence of its food and the splendor of its surroundings featuring bare stone walls and original stone arches which frame the richly coloured fabrics of its decor and panoramic views of the local countryside. With their open log fires and comfortable furniture the Bear Bar and Common Room are perfect for relaxing with the newspaper taking afternoon tea or enjoying your after-dinner coffee and liqueurs. Enjoy fine traditional British ales in the Bear Bar or choose from a selection of fine wines. There is an extensive menu here if you wish to lunch or dine in a more relaxed atmosphere. The delightful Yorkstone terrace area the walled croquet lawn and gardens provide the perfect spot for relaxing with friends or just catching the sun in the afternoon or on a warm summer s evening. /p From the Bear of Rodborough Hotel you can travel 15 minutes by car to Woodchester Mansion Trust and admire the Gothic architecture carving and stone masonry craftsmanship or drive for 30 minutes to the city of Gloucester.
