Beautiful Four Star accommodation in the heart of the Blackdown Hills countryside on the Devon Somerset border. In the middle of nowhere yet central to everywhere! Half an hour from the beach Cathedral City of Exeter and close to the Market towns of Taunton Honiton Axminster and Tiverton situated between Dunkeswell Airfield and the village of Hemyock. Cosy converted loft accommodation above our makers studio with roof terrace garden and far reaching views across the fields and valley. br / br / br / br / The Old Kennels is a flint barn originally part of Stentwood Estate built by Squire Eccles in the 1890 s now home to our herd of Alpacas who are kept solely for their fibre. Woodland wildlife and unspoiled landscapes abound. We are proud to be holders of the Green Tourism Gold Award and take part in Get Wild about Devon . br / br / br / br / While you are here why not take a course in traditional skills hedge laying arts or cookery walking or cycling in ancient woodlands flying lessons water or motor sports fishing enjoy the Jurassic coastline explore the antique shops of Honiton or Cathederal city of Exeter excellent farm shops cafés country pubs breweries and restaurants in the surrounding area and of course the beautiful Blackdown Hills themselves. Walkers & cyclists are welcome we have a secure drying area for bikes and wet weather clothes. br / br / br / br / We also offer a range of award winning courses in rural and traditional skills and crafts such as silversmithing glass bead making stone wood and willow work. br / br / br / br / Accommodation is available throughout the year however as we run short courses accommodation rooms will be reserved for those registered on a course. M5 Travelling Southbound - Road: Take M5 South to junction 26 Wellington take 1st exit off roundabout signed Ruggin. T junction turn right to Ford Street along a narrow winding lane. T junction turn left to Ford Street and Hemyock up a long steep hill at the T junction turn right to Hemyock long straight road take the first left turning signed to Hemyock turn left at the Catherine Wheel pub (signed Dunkeswell ) follow road four miles take left turn signposted STENTWOOD drive slowly down lane take first left br/ br/ Travelling north on M5 - Road: Take M5 north to junction 27 Tiverton take 3rd exit off roundabout signed Culmstock. mini roundabout 1st exit several miles turn right to Culmstock past shop take second left signed Dunkeswell (tiny lane be careful!) grass triangle turn left T junction right take left turn signposted STENTWOOD drive slowly down lane take first left BEFORE driving onto gravel - this is The Old Kennels br/ br/ From A38 from London direction - Road: Turn right at the Eagle Tavern (which is further on in the direction of Honiton from the Ilminster roundabout) At T junction (cross roads) go straight over following signs to Hemyock T junction right cross roads straight over after many miles turn left signed Hemyock in village turn left between Catherine Wheel pub and church (signed Dunkeswell ) follow road about four miles take left turn signposted STENTWOOD drive slowly down lane take first left at bottom of hill BEFORE gravel br/ br/ From A38 Travelling towards London - Road: Take the second exit to Honiton off the A303 IMMEDIATELY (just 200 yards) take a right turn to Dunkeswell/Luppitt continue for about four miles to a fork where you turn left to Dunkeswell Follow main road through Village and past the airfield. Approximately half a mile after the airfield take first right (small drive marked Stentwood) follow lane slowly (large drain half way down!) to bottom of hill turn left back on yourself before you drive onto gravel - this is The Old Kennels br/ br/ Honiton - Train: You can get to the Blackdowns by train to Honiton (Waterloo line) from Tiverton or Taunton Stations (Paddington/ Birmingham Line) and bus from all surrounding places. We have a reasonably good rural bus service and the bus between Honiton and Taunton passes the top of our drive twice a day. Alternatively take a taxi from the station (cost from Honiton which is our nearest station about 6 miles away is approximately £10 or more from other stations) we suggest you book a taxi in advance!
