Dunvalanree built in 1938 with an Art Deco flavour was upgraded in 1999 to four star. Most rooms all individually decorated enjoy panoramic sea views. br / br / Standing in delightful gardens on the edge of Port Righ Bay Dunvalanree enjoys splendid views over Kilbrannon Sound to the Isle of Arran and around Carradale Bay and Forest. Nearly all ther food served is sourced locally and specially prepared each night for diners. All dinners are made from fresh ingredients. To reflect availability the menu changes each night. br / br / br / br / The most popular pastime amongst visitors to Port Righ is walking and perhaps golf. Fortunately as there are so many choices from Carradale Bay to the wind farm but walkers are likely to find it very quiet. Dunvalanree has a series of walks based at Port Righ. Some sections of the Kintyre Way are also accessible. br / br / The area abounds in history from Neolithic to Robert the Bruce. The Scottish nation emerged from the ancient kingdom of Dal Riada which is based around Kintyre with Somerled The Lord of the Isles. Saddell was home to one of the stone carving schools of west Scotland set up by Somerled. br / br / br / br / Campbeltown is full of listed buildings. Once known as Little Glasgow reflecting the number of leading Glasgow architects tempted down to the end of Kintyre to Design and Build. Well worth doing the self guided walk. br / br / br / br / Campbeltown once home to about 34 distilleries now has three producing five seperate whiskies Mitchells the oldest produces not only Springbank but also Longrow whisky which is peated and Hazelburn. Directions From Glasgow - Road: Travel north over the Erskine Bridge from the M8 take the A82 signposted to Crianlarich (left off the bridge). Travel up the west side of Loch Lomond to Tarbet (not to be confused with Tarbert) where the road becomes the A83 (the A82 turns off to Crianlarich) so stay on the A83. Travel through Arrochar over the Rest And Be Thankful mountain pass past Loch Fyne Oysters through Inveraray Lochgilphead (take first exit off each of the Lochgilphead roundabouts) and head for Tarbert. br/ br/ Directions from Tarbert - Road: Take the A83 towards Campbeltown after six miles just after the Kennacraig ferry terminal turn left onto the B8001 (sign posted Carradale) a single track road after about five miles this turns into the B842. Continue south for about fifteen miles to Carradale. Turn off onto the B879 (marked Carradale) and drive through Carradale West to Carradale East. At the crossroads near the bus stop you will see the sign for Dunvalanree and we are right at the end of that road about half a mile. br/ br/ Arran - Road: When on Arran make your way to the Lochranza Ferry. When disembarking bear left on the B8001 and drive perhaps half a mile to the junction. Turn left onto the B842. Continue south for about fifteen miles to Carradale. Turn off onto the B879 (marked Carradale) and drive through Carradale West to Carradale East. At the crossroads near the bus stop you will see the sign for Dunvalanree and we are right at the end of that road about half a mile br/ br/ Campbeltown - Road: Leave Campbeltown via the B842. Carradale is clearly sign posted. From the roundabout at the bottom of Main Street leave by the exis that has the harbour/sea on your right. Almost immediatly turn right keeping the sea on your right. The road turns away from the sea and at the junction turn right onto the B842. Continue north for about fifteen miles to Carradale. Turn right onto the B879 and drive through Carradale West to Carradale East at the crossroads turn right Dunvalanree is at the end.
