The island can be accessed via either of two road bridges Thomas Telford s famous Menai Suspension bridge built in 1826 or the more recent crossing at Britannia Bridge. The latter being the main A55 route to Holyhead port. Beaumaris is 5 miles distant from the Britannia Bridge via the A545.
