Bowen House is a restored Victorian guest house which offers a relaxing quiet and friendly place to stay when visiting York combined with traditional warmth and hospitality. Bowen House is in a fantastic location close to the City Centre and amenities with free off street parking covered by CCTV. We have five comfortable bedrooms four en-suite and one with its own private bathroom. Start your day off with a hearty breakfast served in our airy conservatory and linger over a cup of fresh coffee and decide how to spend your day. br / br / br / br / York is renowned for its long history and the city walls that surround York are some of the finest and most complete in the country. Combining its history with a vibrant city centre offering a continental cafe culture there is much for the visitor to see and experience in York. br / br / br / br / There are special events and speciality market days held throughout the year which will enhance your visit. York Minster dominates the skyline and is only a ten minute stroll from Bowen House and remains at the heart of the city s top attractions alongside the famous Shambles and National Railway Museum. Both the Minster and Shambles are surrounded by cobbled streets and alleyways enticing you to explore and enjoy. York has so much to offer a diverse array of shops including antique and book dealers craft shops boutiques as well as all the high street names. If you really want some retail therapy there are two out of town shopping centres at Monks Cross and McArthur Glen. The City has many shady squares gardens tea rooms and riverside bars to enjoy a relaxing drink or bite to eat. There are many hidden gems in and around the City that will delight you. There is so much to see and do in the surrounding area you may need more than a weekend. Bowen House is an ideal base to stay longer.

Directions to Bowen House York

From the East A64 - Road: From the A64 Hopgrove roundabout take the A1237. At the first roundabout take the 1st exit onto A1036 Malton Road. You will pass the Hopgrove Pub on your left. At the second roundabout take the 1st exit and continue to follow A1036 going straight on at the traffic lights. At the third roundabout take the third exit. At the fourth and final roundabout take the third exit onto Huntington Road. Bowen House is on the corner of the second turning on the right. br/ br/ The Railway Station on foot - Train: Turn left out of the station front. Always have the road on your right. With the Royal York Hotel gardens on your left continue ahead cross the road. Pass under the bar walls and then over the river. York Minster will come into view and you should continue towards it. Pass to the right of the minster and continue ahead up Goodramgate. Go under Monkgate Bar and straight ahead to the roundabout. Huntington Road is the first left. Bowen House is on the corner of the second road on the right. br/ br/ From the South and Southwest A19 and A1 - Road: York centre is notoriously difficult to navigate through so we would suggest that when travelling from the South or Southwest you travel East on the A64 Southern bypass towards Scarborough and then follow the instructions as if from the East. We appreciate that this will add some distance to your journey. We believe though particularly at peak times that it will save you time and you will arrive at Bowen House not having had to endure the stress of navigating some of Yorks inner city roads br/ br/ From the North and Northwest A59 and A19 - Road: As you approach York you will come to the A1237 Northern bypass. To avoid the City Centre we would suggest that you head east on the A1237 towards Scarborough and generally this would mean you take the 1st exit at the roundabout when joining the A1237. Continue on the A1237 straight ahead at the roundabouts until the very end and you see the overhead signs. Take the second exit on to the A1036 and then follow the directions as if travelling from the East starting at the 1st roundabout. br/ br/ Satellite Navigation - Road: There are two Gladstone Streets in York so when using a satellite navigation system make sure you enter the correct and full postcode. This will ensure you arrive at Bowen House without a detour to the other side of York. The postcode for Bowen House is YO31 8RF.
