Built in the 19th century the house was bought as a hunting lodge in 1888 by Lord Lonsdale then one of the richest men in the country. Known as the Yellow Earl he ensured that his name went down in history by bequeathing the famous Lonsdale Belt to boxing. His lodge was set in the incomparable landscape of the Lake District over-looking one of England s loveliest stretches of water - Windermere. /p With a magnificent view of Lake Windermere and the Langdale Fells Holbeck Ghyll is idyllic in any season surrounded by the extensive woodlands and natural beauty of Cumbria. Follow M6 (North) to junction 36 then take the A591 to Windermere. Continue for 3 miles towards Ambleside passing Troutbeck Bridge Services & Brockhole Visitors Centre. Just past the Langdale Chase Hotel turn right into Holbeck Lane (signed Troutbeck and Townend). The hotel drive is half a mile up the lane on the left hand side. FROM THE NORTH Follow M6 (South) to junction 40 Penrith. Take the A66 to Keswick join the A591 passing Grasmere and Ambleside. Approximately 1 mile south of Ambleside just after the Low Wood Hotel turn left into Holbeck Lane. The Hotel drive is half a mile up the lane on the left hand side.
