Beamish is a World Class open air museum situated in a valley near Durham and set in the era of 1913. It consists of a miners village with a real drift mine a pit head wheel house school chapel and miner's cotages. There is a town with a Co-op a bank a pub a printer stables a sweet shop masonic hall a garage a park and a railway station. There are two farms and many more real buildings restored and reconstructed within the grounds. Visitors are transported around on vintage buses and trolley buses and are encouraged to talk to the museum staff, all dressed in period costumes, to find out about life in early 1900s
