BABUR RESTAURANT
Babur is a comfortably smart, 72-seat neighbourhood restaurant, which offers West End dining at local prices. We do not have any house wines, but serve 15 wines by the glass, including champagne and a rose. We have matched all our main courses to wines, a white and a red whenever possible and at least one of our recommendations for each dish is available by the glass. Our cocktail list has embraced the joy of mixing Indian flavours with traditional drinks, like our popular Currytini (Bombay Sapphire, dry white vermouth, Rose’s lime juice, fresh curry leaf and fresh green chilli). Babur aims to present a snapshot of cooking as it exists in India today, so the menu has both traditional regional dishes as well as contemporary Indian cooking which freely mixes differing regional influences to create a harmonious new dish. On our menu, traditional dishes have the Indian language names they are best known by, while dishes created in our kitchen are named in English. Menu items range from the very light and minimally spiced (such as our pot-roasted mustard and ginger rabbit cooked in rabbit stock) to the very rich and robustly-spiced (like our Laverstoke Park buffalo lal maas). As traditional Indian cuisines do not really feature desserts in the Western sense, we have freely mixed Eastern flavours and ingredients with European dishes (such as Amrut cranachan, an oatmeal pudding made with Indian single malt whisky and buffalo milk).
