Queen Street Mill Textile Museum
Queen Street Mill is the last steam powered weaving mill in the world. Built in 1894/5 as a workers cooperative it remained in production until March 1982, being powered by the locally built W. Roberts steam engine still driving the original 1894 built looms until the very end. The mill is preserved very much as it closed. The coal fired Lancashire boiler provides steam for the engine which is run for periods during each day that the museum is open. A small number of looms are run to give weaving demonstrations. The museum offers a cafe and gift shop. Opening times are seasonal March to November, and variable depending on time of year. Please ring 01282 412555 for exact opening times and further details. A small admission fee applies to adults, concessions available.
