The Artichoke
The Artichoke Amersham restaurant reopened last year after a lengthy closure due to fire from a neighbouring premises, is celebrating its first award since its re-opening - 2011 Good Food Guide Best New Entry award. Chef/Patron Laurie Gear and his team, used the enforced break from the restaurant to spend time in other restaurants, including the renowned Noma in Copenhagen, & have worked hard since last November to really establish the restaurant’s culinary credentials, with new, refined Modern European menus. Laurie’s menus feature carefully crafted dishes, which combine his classic French training with the more contemporary inspiration he picked up over the years. A signature has become the array of 'natural culinary treasures' (berries, herbs and fungi that can be foraged from hedgerows, forests and seashores) used in his cooking. He’s also particularly interested in how colour, texture and flavour combine on the plate. The dinner à la carte is £39.50 for three courses. There’s also a tasting menu, offering seven courses of highlights from the menu, priced at £56, with an accompanying wine flight costing £41. At lunchtime The Artichoke Amersham serves a set menu of three courses for £22.50, although an individually priced lunch à la carte is also available. Set in the attractive medieval town of Old Amersham in the Chiltern Hills, The Artichoke Amersham aims to be the best kind of ‘neighbourhood’ restaurant, so the menus are matched by a dining room, which is sophisticated without being too formal, and the service is friendly.
